GO ON, BE VAIN!

Vain: Having or showing an excessively high opinion of one’s appearance, abilities, or worth.

: At first glance you may think it’s bad to be vain. Almost down right evil. Lol. I would say once in a while, be vain. It’s a way of loving yourself.

It’s 4PM. You have had a rough day. Boss was hard on you, client was unrealistic with demands, even worse, your lunch was never delivered. Bummer. You have clocked out and are now looking at the journey ahead of you. That stage is for tricks. You wont make it. Kuongezea, mvua ndio hiyo kwa horizon. You are just tired and feel defeated. Who would blame you? Today your limits were tested proper.

Do you know what I say to myself when in similar situations? Kwani what do I work so hard for? The good life yes? I have some money with me so? Why not jump in an Uber, sit huko back left, take selfies and go get some take out on my way home?

Yes. I will be vain. I will want to feel like a boss being driven around. Me at the back of that Uber is my way of telling myself, “Pole dear, enyewe today was hard.” And if I want to nap all the way home, there’s no fear of sleeping on the wheel, I don’t have to sing all the way to keep myself awake, I don’t have to worry about matatus harassing me on the road, and even the jam doesn’t seem so bad.

So the next time those dark clouds are hovering, your body is tired and maybe even your spirit is broken, hail that Uber. Check in back left, take that selfie and show the world just how vain you can be.

Love. Live. Learn.

Mwalimu Rachel.
