I have been blogging for close to a year now, here, as well as on www.hbr.co.ke and I have learnt a lot over this time. I would like to share some of what I have learnt from experience coupled with some research I have done so we can be better bloggers.
1. Understand Your Audience.
This is the only way you can know the kind of content to write about. A good way of doing this is by creating blog posts that answer the most interesting questions from people you engage with on social media. This will help your blog grow and will get people identifying with what you speak about.
2. Have a Call To Action.
Remind your readers about your twitter account. Tell them to sign up to your mailing list, link other related stories and ask them to share your post. This will help your blog have a wider reach.
3. Be Consistent.
This is a tough one even for me, something I am working on. Consistency equals expectation; which is a good thing for your audience. And once your audience knows you are consistent, traffic on your site increases.
4. Give Stuff Away.
This is an incentive to drive traffic your way. Let’s admit it, we all love freebees. So if you can invest in some treats for your audience, it will go a long way.
5. Give It Some Time.
I am yet to reach thousands with a single post but day by day, being consistent and following other tips, I am quite sure I will get there. You will too! So don’t be disappointed if you see other blogs getting more traffic than yours, it only means you have to keep at it. I’m pretty sure that blog that gets thousands started off with just a handful of readers.
