Money is the root of all evil, right? WRONG! We’ve been saying it wrong! The Bible says “For the LOVE of money is a root of all kinds of evil” (1 Timothy 6:10, go see!). I don’t blame you for thinking money is evil though… with all the corruption scandals that are rocking the core of our country, it gets easy to associate money with everything wrong.
Be that as it may, this is one of the biggest myths about money that are holding you back from creating wealth.
The problem with believing money is equal to evil is that you end up missing out on opportunities. Remember that time when you thought you could charge for a service, then thought “Never mind! I can’t charge for that.” Back when I was in high school, I used to be great with calligraphy. I was that one person who designed envelops that my classmates would mail to other schools. It got to a point where I thought, “Maybe I should charge 20-30 bob per envelope”.
LIGHT BULB MOMENT!
I never did charge my friends! Why? Because I believed that what I did came naturally to me. People have to work hard to make money, so if I did charge my friends, I would be a selfish person taking advantage. Now I wish I did make that extra 100 bob per day!
Just because you do things effortlessly, does not mean you do not deserve to make money from your natural talents! Your time, your energy, your effort is worth something. YOU are worth something. Do not be afraid to put a price on your own head. Money is not evil, and wanting money does not make you a bad person.
Develop a positive relationship with money, otherwise you will not be successful. This is true, especially if you want to follow your passion for a livelihood. If you do not change your views on money, you’re setting yourself up for a lot of struggles.
Money is evil… Again I say, no it isn’t. At the end of the day, it is your intent with money that will determine whether you’re a good or bad person. There are people who take advantage and exploit others to acquire money. That is when the LOVE for money drives you to do bad things. Otherwise, money is just paper. Paper that we exchange to get food, shelter, clothing, the basics…
So does that mean that I shouldn’t do things like take unpaid internships for experience? That’s a topic for another day. Today, we conclude that money is a good thing.
